Senior Architect & Interior Designer
With over fifteen years of practice across India, Pradeep Raj leads a studio dedicated to architecture that is both rigorously conceptual and deeply felt. His work emerges from a conviction that the finest spaces are not merely designed — they are distilled.
Each project begins with an investigation into place: the quality of light, the memory of materials, the rhythm of use. From hillside villas in the Western Ghats to heritage hotels in Rajasthan, the work is characterised by a restrained material palette, precise detailing, and a quiet sensuality that rewards inhabitation over time.
"Architecture is the measured relationship between light, material, and silence — a response to the land and a gift to those who dwell within."
— Pradeep Raj D. Y
A curated selection of recent projects that demonstrate the studio's range across typology, scale, and context.
Perched on a ridge overlooking the Western Ghats, this weekend retreat unfolds as a series of pavilions cascading down the natural slope. Locally quarried granite anchors the volumes to the land, while reclaimed teak and copper add warmth and narrative depth. The butterfly roof collects rainwater into a central pond — an ancient wisdom reimagined.
A gallery as neutral vessel — white walls, floating planes, and north-facing clerestories that flood the space with even, glare-free daylight. Steel I-sections are left exposed, their industrial honesty contrasting with polished concrete floors. The architecture recedes so that art may speak.
A forensic restoration of a 19th-century haveli in Jaipur's walled city. The original courtyard was excavated to reveal its sandstone colonnade; new insertions of exposed concrete and brass remain deliberately legible as contemporary. Old and new exist in curated contrast — each enhancing the other.
A net-positive workplace organised around a central water courtyard — a modern interpretation of the traditional thinnai. A solar chimney, shaded verandahs, and terraced gardens reduce energy demand by 40%. The building breathes like a living organism.
A duplex penthouse overlooking the Bay of Bengal, conceived as a gallery for living. Black granite, smoked oak, and matte brass create an atmosphere of hushed opulence. The sculptural staircase — cantilevered in steel and clad in oak — floats through the double-height void.
